Most of the files that you download might contain viruses as hackers and other people try to spread their virus or worm or malware through those networks which share files like torrents. I totally disagree that it is difficult for a virus to sneak into a torrent file.
But because of those who pirate content, many countries and ISPs block torrent sites or fine those who download torrents. To access these sites, you need a VPN. With a VPN, you can change your location to a place where torrenting is allowed and download content.
While there are several free VPNs available on the market, they all come with limited abilities. Some have a limited number of servers, while others give you limited bandwidth. And then there are some VPN services set up by malicious entities who want to track your activity.
If you want to access a large number of servers and have unlimited bandwidth along with the access to all VPN protocols, you’ll need to get a paid VPN. But, if you still want a free VPN for torrenting, here’s our list of the top services.

5 Best FREE VPNs For Torrenting Safely
1. Hotspot Shield
- 1 connection per account
- Blazing fast speeds
- 500 MB of data a day
Hotspot Shield is really popular – especially the free version. One of the main reasons for that is its super fast speeds, which are ideal for downloading. That said, the free version limits the amount of data you can use to 500 MB a day, which may not be enough depending on how big your torrent files are. But since it’s free, it’s worth giving a shot.
2. Hide.me
- 1 connection per account
- Only 3 servers to connect to
- 2GB data transfer limit
- Torrenting allowed
Hide.me is a fast VPN that has apps for all major platforms including iPhone and Android. In the free version, you can only connect to three servers and get 2GB per month. Hide.me also does not have OpenVPN support, which might be a disappointment for security-conscious users. Hide.me does, however, support PPTP, L2TP, SSTP, and IPSec. While you only get 3 servers to choose from, you can download torrents without any restrictions (except for the data limit). Find out what real Hide.me users have to say here.
3. Windscribe
- Unlimited connections
- Only 11 servers
- 10GB per month
Windscribe offers 10GB per month, which means you can torrent some of the bigger files. It has apps for all major platforms and comes with a strong ad-blocker. Unfortunately, the free version only has 11 servers, which might cause slower speeds. That said, Windscribe still has lots of fans.
4. Security Kiss
Windows 10 Download
- OpenVPN support
- Only 300 MB per day
- 4 country locations
Is It Ok To Download Torrent Windows 10 1
Security Kiss comes with several plans and the free one gives access to 4 locations. It supports OpenVPN on Windows and Mac, which is the preferred protocol. With a daily limit of 300 MB, there is not much torrenting you can do, but if you plan to download a few songs or lightweight apk files, it can be useful. 5. ProXPN
- 300 kbps speed limit
- One location
- Same level of customer service as premium account
ProXPN has two accounts – free and paid. The free account offers limited speed (300 kbps) and only one location is available (US-Miami server). At this speed, you might have to wait for a few hours to download a single movie. However, if you’re out of choices, ProXPN is something you can use. To read real user reviews of ProXPN, click here.
While there are quite a few free VPNs on the market, many have location restrictions and speed or bandwidth limitations. And many can actually be dangerous to use. You can read more about the risks of using free VPNs here. And if you decide the drawbacks just aren’t worth it, and you’re willing to spend a few bucks, we have a list of the best VPNs for torrenting.
With a paid VPN, you can get unlimited data and bandwidth to help you torrent fast. And they’re really inexpensive too – with a yearly or a two-yearly plan, the prices go down and they cost only a couple of dollars per month.

Hi All,
Anyone having issues with utorrent 3.2.2 and 2.2.1 and the network icon on bottom right corner of utorrent?
Since Windows 10 the Network icon is switching from yellow icon 'no incoming connections' to the green icon 'ok' continuously. My ports are showing open and utorrent is setup as always to work fine but not in Windows 10 it seems
This is causing my torrents to be active and having connections downloading from me one min and then all 'inactive' and nobody connecting. Very annoying
I tried both builds and getting the same results.
Greatly appreciate any input in this issue.
Seems I am finding bugs in Windows 10 every day. So I am dealing with each, one at a time lol.
